General Description and Qualifications

Administrative Support

 

Autism currently affects 1 out of every 150 children in the United States.  The Autism Society of Greater San Antonio (ASGSA) is a chapter of the Autism Society of America and is currently seeking Administrative Support volunteers to provide essential help in fulfilling the ASGSA mission statement:  To promote lifelong access and opportunity for all individuals within the Autism spectrum and their families to be fully included members in the community through education, advocacy, promotion of research, public awareness, and collaboration with other organizations.  

 

Support tasks can be tailored to the individual and groups, and includes but is not limited to answering telephone calls, taking messages or information and referring callers to appropriate resources and keeping a record of referrals made; opening and sorting incoming correspondence, including faxes and emails, and preparing responses to correspondence containing routine inquiries; assisting within filing; preparing mail-outs; making bulk copies; creating packets for monthly meetings and trainings; data entry; and computer generated reports.  

 

Volunteers should have general knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, protocol, equipment, clerical techniques and customer service, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.    Requirements also may include the knowledge and ability to work on a computer (Microsoft Word, Excel and Access).   Orientation and training will be provided. 

Time requirements:   2-5 hours/week, Mon-Fri – morning or afternoon, days and hours  flexible.    Some tasks, as determined on a project basis, can be picked up at the office and be done in the volunteer’s home.

Meeting Coordinators

 

Organized and energetic volunteers to assist with parent support group and specialized training meetings, from set-up to clean-up.   Hours:  9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., 1st and/or  3rd Saturdays.    Location:  Medical Center area.  Checklist with necessary duties provided.  You will have the opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of children and families affected by autism.

Child Care – Never a Dull Moment

 

Energetic, enthusiastic people who have a passion for making a difference to provide child care during parent support group meetings the 3rd Saturday of the month.  Child care hours are 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  Training and orientation provided.  Location:   Medical Center area.   Background check required.

Public Relations/Advertising/ Marketing Internship Posting

 

Intern with an interest in marketing, public relations, or advertising studies.  Autism currently affects 1 out of every 150 children in the United States.  The ASGSA intern will be assisting with media, promotions and networking throughout the area (most of South Texas).  Candidates should be self-motivated and should possess exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.  Minimum commitment consists of spring, fall or summer semester and at least 5 hours a week.
